Persistent Infection Question

Our 1 year old female boxer is just now showing signs of allergic reaction to her food. She is getting ear irritation (red spots, infection and itchy-ness). Our vet gave her a shot of Depro-Medrol which seemed to help but now 1 month later her ears are bothering her again. Do I need to change foods? Would your product help? Currently she is being fed Hill's Science Diet (lamb and rice) we have also tried Biljac with no better results. She is very happy and energetic and has a beautiful coat... i just hate to see her rub her ears.

Hi Sandy,
If a problem like this is limited to the ears it may just be a persistent infection of bacteria/yeast or both. If it is recurrent then there may be another underlying cause.
In our hands food allergies are not usually amenable to Depo Medrol. If the symptoms improve dramatically in response to Depo Medrol we take that as at least some indication that food allergy is not the main component of the problem (if any component at all). Depo injections stay in the patient for 3 weeks so having the problem recur in a month is typical. Repeated Depo shots are not recommended.
Problems like this can be difficult to diagnose. We usually consider hypothyroidism, Atopic Dermatitis (inhalant allergies), mite infestations, liver problems, and persistent bacterial or yeast infections. Successful treatment depends upon successful diagnosis.
In our hands the best way to diagnose food allergies is to feed Hills z/d Ultra for up to 16 weeks as the only diet (and the only source of protein.) Theoretically dogs with food allergies cannot be allergic z/d Ultra so we use it to diagnose food allergies.
We do not recommend switching around to different diets - it only leads to problems and does not diagnose anything. If our clients want the answer we use z/d Ultra to get the answer.
Regardless what the problem is, in our hands Transfer Factor Professional Strength Immune Tabs have no negative side effects and often help a great deal.
We will have them available soon at http://ehealth-solutions.com but have them in stock now.
