My cat Sarah is about 12 years old. She has always had very dry stools. In December 06, she became very constipated and was hospitalized and given enemas. Since then she was doing better but recently in the past 2 days, I have noticed she is not eating. She has passed 2 large round stools but I believe she probably has more since she is not eating (similar to Dec.) Is there an over the counter suppository that I can give her? Is it possible to give her an enema at home? She has been worked up in the past with no significant findings. I have come to believe that this may just be related to her getting older. She drinks plenty of water daily. Any suggestions would be appreciated to keep this from happening. Thank you. Bernadette
Question: My two year old cat who has been litter trained since day one, has suddenly started urinating all over my house! She is in heat right now, does this have anything to do with that? Will having her spayed help? Please help us!??!
I have 3 cats ranging in age from almost 17 down to almost 6 who are all front-declawed. I have recently acquired a fourth who is a little more than 3 years old. My vet will not declaw him because of his age, he said. Is this a general practice? I like my vet and if I took him somewhere else, he might drop me and all four cats.
I rescued several feral cats from the woods and ended up adopting one after socializing them. The others were taken to Animal Refuge Center, a wonderful no-kill place where they can live forever if not adopted. The set up the cat houses like real homes with furniture to get them ready for adoption. They are free to roam out onto the screened-in porch areas. Anyway, I am trying to determine Louie's real age and I know he impregnated the female cat I rescued. That is why I am asking. Thanks.
I just recently got a 7 week old kitten, who was severly constipated. The first day we figured out he had tapeworms and took him to the vet for all the necessary shots and medicines. The vet said the constipation is a result of the tapeworms, which was neglected to be treated before i had got him. But still after the medicines, my kitten is having a lot of trouble passing a stool. He will be fine one day until it all builds up and the whole day he is lethargic and worn out, and his anus swells up a lot. Though when he finally passes it all, he is fine and had a normal energy level. Is there any ideas on what this could be and if there is anything i could do to help my poor kitty?
Q: I have a cat which we have owned as an inside cat for the past 6 years. My husband and I are thinking about getting pregnant soon and didn’t know if she needed to be tested for toxoplasmosis? She is never outside and doesn’t catch mice? Do we need to get her tested, if so how much would that cost or do I have nothing to worry about? Thanks.
Q: I have just adopted a stray cat which my vet has declared healthy, disease free, and about one-year-old however he has a deformed right front paw which may be either from a congenital deformity or traumatic event. How would I get information about whether or not reconstructive surgery is an option for my new friend?
Q: We have an outdoor cat who comes inside from time to time. He has been vaccinated for feline luc, rabies, and distemper. My indoor cats have not been vaccinated because they never leave the house. Can the outdoor cat be a carrier of disease or because he is vaccinated, does this eliminate the threat of this.
Q: My female cat is 11 years old and my question is: Why is she eating spider webs? I feed her a very good diet of raw meat and veggies with some grains. She has been doing this for about 5 years. Please can you give me some advice? Thanks, Kim.
Q: We have a male cat approximately 15 mos old that lives in our garage due to my allergies but my children begged for a pet. He was neutered as a kitten and we try to keep current on all immunizations. On several occassions we have forgotten to close our van windows and he has used the leather seats as a scratching post. We are considering declawing but would like to know the pros and cons of having this done. Also, 4 paws or only fronts? Do you have any recommendations on repairing the damage done to the leather? Thanks
Q: How do you feed small kittens that the mother left? We had a small doll bottle that we used and the nipple is almost nibbled off. We can’t get them to drink from a bowl. What else could we use to feed them milk through and how about food? They are not newborns. We have been giving them sausage and they gobbled it down. They seemed really hungry. Thank you.

Q: Recently (two weeks) my cat has not been acting the same. He is 11 years old. We took him to a local vet and he was placed in hospital. His labs all showed normal except WBC was elevated and amylase was extremely high. I was told it went from 2500 to higher. He was taken off food and water for three days and given fluids through injection pouches under his skin along with antibiotics. He is home now and eating well. Is there any test or x-ray that will show if has cancer of pancreas?? I read on the web and the local doctor said that it would have to be surgery to explore abdominal area. I hate for him to go through such a surgery if there is something else I could do. I do trust this doctor but it is a smaller vet clinic and hospital and they may not have the services a larger area has. I would appreciate any information… Thank you.
Q: My cat is 9 months old, de-clawed, and spayed female short hair. She has had a habit for the last 2 months (since she moved in with my husband and I) to walk up to us while we are laying down on the couch or bed and lick, bite, and pull our hair out. We fed her Kit’n Kaboodle as well as cat treats for positive reinforcements. I have started to introduce a spray bottle when she pulls my hair and firmly tell her “No”. I’m not sure if she understands or thinks that it is a game! Do you have any suggestions or knowledge of why she might be doing this or how to get her to stop??
Q: 4-year-old female spayed cat, all shots. Recently developed bumpy, lumpy, tissue around anus (sometimes extremely red). Nothing about eating, etc has changed, nor is she constipated. Was given Animax ointment and Prednisone tabs, once a day, after cleaning her with 50/50 sol of Peroxide and Water. Told that if meds do not cause lumps to start going away, then there is a good chance that this is cancer. New vet also said that the ONLY way to figure out what these lumps are is to do a biopsy at $400, but that they are granulomas. Any suggestions or thoughts. Jade is a wonderful cat who started her life out in a neglectful and abusive environment. I do not want to destroy her but cant afford expensive treatment. We do not want her to suffer neither. Told that if she starts showing signs of illness, that euthanization may be best thing.
Q: My tomcat is 7-year-old, and until now has been mainly a house and backyard cat due to traumatic life before he came to us. He is not neutered, and until now this has not been a problem. I occasionally catch a whiff of his spray in the garden, but he has never sprayed in the house. Recently he has begun to want to stay out of the house longer, and has actually dared to leave the backyard this week. I know he must be chasing females, and I believe that he will begin fighting soon. I plan to have him castrated, but have been told that as he is older this may not change his behavior, and that he will still chase females and fight, but just not be able to perform sexually. Is this true?
